E # ECLIPSE IN MY EYES

Disclaimer: I am participating in Blogging from A-Z challenge 2022 and this is my fifth post for E-ECLIPSE IN MY EYES

I have always been really fascinated by the cosmic phenomenon. Solar or lunar, the eclipse thing has always had its charm for me. Reading and learning about it in my science textbook, and drawing related diagrams all kept my interest uninterrupted in it. Practically although I had experienced it once and that is hopefully my last too.

Once solar eclipse had fallen on a Diwali day. I guess the year was 1995. All of us including my parents were in a festive mood. I went to my father and asked for an X-ray film as I wished to see the ring of fire at its scheduled time. He took out one and said I need to be very careful, not to watch it with my naked eye at all. I nodded happily. As the time was nearing my father,  younger sister and myself all ran on the terrace all excited each with an X-ray film in hand. Our trio excitedly saw the amazingly beautiful ring holding the films in front of us, thinking it was absolutely safe. It was the most awesome sight for me, incredibly fantastic, being a part of this celestial event.

Ironically we three are the only members in our family who presently have weak eye sights, wear glasses or lenses or have undergone a Lasik procedure. My father claims he started developing cataract since he watched the solar eclipse with us. He will be getting his surgery done very soon.

So u see it's not a great idea to watch the sun in its eclipse mode without proper professional gear and glasses made of special-purpose solar filters, but who knows even they might cause eye damage which might be proved only when it has been done.

LESSON LEARNT # watch the sun any other day but not during an eclipse, if u still intend to, it should strictly be on the internet or any news channel.

REPRECUSSIONS# We won't be getting another pair of eyes, in this life. So need to take extra care of the ones originally given. Damage control for the rest of my living years so that I can leave my eyes in donatable condition finally.

  7. I was in class VIII or IX i think and remember watching it on TV...especially the diamond ring part..You know if you place an iron pounder(used for powdering in indian kitchens , we call it ulakkai in Tamil) in water it would stand without falling during an eclipse...my mother and us kids actually tried it and it worked

  8. Whoa, that dove south pretty fast. You seem like someone who can write dark humour pretty well. I was just looking at the build up thinking you must have done some stunt or naughtiness but it went with serious repercussions pretty quickly there! Well, good that nothing more serious or dangerous happened. Eclipses are always scary in that sense! Enjoying your posts!
